"Argent, in pale a fox's mask gules and flames of fire proper"

Greetings all, and welcome to my page. My name is Michael Hickman. I live on the border of East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia with my beautiful and talented wife and daughters and work for the City of Kingsport, Tennessee in the Engineering Department as a Civil Engineering Designer (it doesn't always roll downhill). I've been a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard for 16 years as many different roles. My hobbies are painting,  Jeeps, hunting, fishing and camping.

Currently I'm researching my family history and have traced one branch (Christian's) back to the Twelfth Century on the Isle of Man. Other family names that I'm researching are Hickman, Barrett, Anderson, and Martin. Email me if you're interested in getting some info on this.

I'm also a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), a non-profit organization dedicated in recreating life in the Middle Ages as they Should have been. As a member you pick a persona, or a person who might have lived in that time period, and try to recreate how they might have lived. To find out more about my persona, click here. One of the main activities in the SCA is combat. You get to build your own armour and weapons and fight in tournaments. Other activities, aside from combat related, are medieval arts and sciences. Some of the skills I've developed in the SCA include woodcarving, calligraphy, painting, heraldry, and leatherwork. If you would like to barter for some of my work, send me a scroll.
