Forensics

"The War" is a play written by Hagan Hensley, a sophomore at Gate City High School. As a member of the school's forensics team, Hagan plans to perform the scene with another teammate in the Virginia High School League's Highlands District Forensics Meet in February 1998.

GCHS Academic Team

The academic team at GCHS had a very successful year. They competed against other schools in Scott and Russell Counties and had a perfect 7-0 season. The coaches for the academic team are Carolyn Helms and Mary Alice McClellan.

National Honor Society

Selection for the National Honor Society is based on academic performance, leadership, service, and character. Prospects are invited to seek membership in the spring semester of their sophomore year, providing they have a cumulative average of 90 or above. They must also have participated in two or more school activities (clubs or sports) and at least one community service activity.

Students are invited to join only one time during their high school (grades 10-12) years. Members are expected to maintain a cumulative average of 90 or above and to adhere to the standards of the National Honor Society. Failure to do so will result in dismissal. For more information, see sponsors Marjorie Blalock or Carolyn Helms.
