24. David ARNETT (5) was born on Nov 8 1847 in Toms Creek(near Balkan)on Cumberland River. He died on Oct 30 1934 in Toms Creek. Near the end of the Civil War, David Arnett "scouted' (hid out) to keep from being drafted ubto the Army(Confederate probably}. The best nighs sleep he ever got was sleeping under a pile of leaves ; it having snowed about 10 inches during the night
There is no record of David Arnett owning land in Bell Co. where he lived most of his life. He rented of sharecropper on lands from Balkan area to Hances Creek, Bell, Co. In 1917 David inherited $1,00 from his brother, Elaias, and brought a farm in Lee County, VA, but later returned to Bell Co. He had a reputation for moving often.
After 1900, he operated a grist mill on the Cumberland River. His son, Jimmy, told if a very large catfish getting caught in the water wheel, stopping the works of the mill. They "butchered" the catfish like it was a hog."
David Arnett once had a contract to carry mail from Wasioto to the Harlan-Bell Co. line. His son, Elias, would take the mail in saddle bags (riding a small horse] across Laurel Hill and Tan Yard to the county line. There he would exchange daddle bags and return the Harlan mail to Wasioto.
David Arnett and Saruh Miracle Arnett are buried in the Arnett Cementary, located on the left of the road(from Balkan to Brownies Creek) at the head of Toms' Creek.

25. Sarah MIRACLE was born in 1850 in Harlan Co.???. She died in 1888. (6) Children were:

child ii. Malinda "Linday Jane" ARNETT(8) was born in 1872.
child iii. Louitta "Tish" ARNETT(9) was born in 1876.
child iv. Barnett ARNETT(10) was born on Sep 5 1878. He died on Sep 16 1945.
child v. Abraham "Abe" ARNETT(11) was born in 1880.
child vi. Henrietta "Diddie" ARNETT(12) was born on Mar 19 1882.
child12 vii. Elias, "Loss" ARNETT.
child viii. Johnny ARNETT(13) was born in Jul 1885.
child ix. James "Jimmy" ARNETT(14) was born on Dec 22 1886. He died on Mar 14 1984.
