220. John MARTIN was born in 1762. John was 1762, perhaps in Old District 96, S. C. At that time, District 96 was on the frontier. John Martin entered service in the Revolution as a substitute for his father (not named at this time, who was drafted at 45 years of age. John's service began in late 1778 or early 1779. He fought in several campaigns against the British and Indians allies; in Savannah, "in Bullswamp near Orangeburg" and expedition against the Cherokee Indians, volnteered to go against the British at Savannah in 1781, his unit went to aid General Green at the seige of 96.
He settled in Hawkins County in 1780's amd settled in Hawkins where he lived four years. Children were:
